AutoPath™ uses documentation data that is captured during a first pass Source Operation (Example: planting or strip
till) to automatically create guidance lines for the entire field for secondary passes (Example: spraying and harvest).

No, the 4240 Universal Display is not supported for Gen 4 Machine Sync.
No, a MCR can only be used for 2630 Machine Sync and may cause interference when operating Gen 4 Machine Sync wirelessly.
- Yes, a hot spot can be used to tether to an MTG WiFi in Wireless Settings page or to connect to a 4640 Universal Display via WiFi (No MTG) to accomplish In Field Data Sharing.
- Cellular connection is not required to run machine sync, but it is required to run the In-Field Data Sharing features within Gen 4 Machine Sync.
No, Machine Communications Radios are not supported with Gen 4 Machine Sync. The radio should be powered off for best performance experience.
6 machines sharing data is the supported number; more than 6 machines is possible, but performance could be impacted with large amounts of data.
Yes, there is no spatial limitations.
- Follower – The machine onto which Leader is unloading the crop and has its speed controlled by the Leader
- Home Point – The location set for each unique Leader and Follower pair where automation guides the Follower to unload
- In-Field Data Sharing – The application that uses cellular connection to show machine location, auger and tank level information and share guidance lines between machines
- Leader – Machine that is doing the harvest operation and creating the network for a Follower to connect to
- Left side unloading zone – Traditional machine unloading zone for combines. Unloading is done on the left-hand side of
the Leader. - MCR – Machine Communications Radio
- MTG – Modular Telematics Gateway
- Nudge – the ability to shift the Follower inline or laterally while unloading on the go. Nudge increments and saving a new home point after nudging can be adjusted in settings
- Tractor Implement Automation Activation (TIA) – Activation which allows speed automation on the tractor platform
- U-Shape Unloading Zone – Unloading zone that provides unloading on the left, right and behind the harvester. This unloading zone is setup in a U shape around the Leader
In-Field Data Sharing allows operators to share information:
- Between multiple machines in the same field at the same time.
- Continuing a previous incomplete job with either the same machine or a different machine.
Data shared includes:
- Coverage maps
- As-applied maps
- Guidance lines -straight and circle tracks
- Documentation setup data -variety names products, tank mixes
- Harvest yield and moisture
In-Field Data Sharing uses each operations coverage map, allowing section control to be work best for each operation.
No, maps and data can be used by machines for at least 30 days. A farm could plant corn on Tuesday with a planter and finish the field with a different machine the following Saturday using the coverage, guidance line, and setup data from the previous Tuesday.
Currently, the names must match. A work around is to create a tank mix and change the ingredients under that tank mix. The coverage maps remain, and the ingredients are documented correctly; John Deere is working on an improved solution.
No, the 4240 Universal Display is not supported for In-Field Data Sharing.

This display is intended for producers wanting to upgrade to the Gen 4 operating experience that do not have a John Deere machine equipped with a 4600 CommandCenter™ Display, competitive tractors (AutoTrac™ Universal and AutoTrac Controller tractor models for AutoTrac requirements), and operators that prefer to run precision ag apps on a universal display.
See the Sales Manual for complete machine compatibility requirements. Model year 2018 electric-drive planters sold with SeedStar™ 4 and the C850 Air Cart require a Gen 4 system for operation.
The 4640 Universal Display enables operators to use the most common agricultural applications in a display that is both moveable and provides the latest internal components, design, and interface. The 4640 Universal Display can replace a GreenStar 3 2630 Display in most applications, but please see the Gen 4 compatibility guide for more information.
It works the same as the GreenStar 3 2630 Display works with a 4600 CommandCenter. All Precision Ag applications can only be run from one display. When the 4640 Universal Display is plugged into the cornerpost, Precision Ag apps are default set to run from that display and the 4600 serves as an implement viewer only.
For the best operator experience on tractors equipped with a 4600 CommandCenter, it is suggested to run all Precision Ag applications from the CommandCenter. If a second monitor is needed, add the Gen 4 Extended Monitor to avoid dual display setup/operation and separate software updates.
There are several changes with hardware. The video connection and Ethernet connection are different and require different harnessing for compatibility than the GreenStar 3 2630. Additionally, there is a power button added by popular request and a port for Extended Monitor connection.
The antennas behind the display are intentionally mounted externally but do not require adjustment. Antennas can be left pointing downward as shipped.
No, and it is not planned to be. It is compatible with John Deere Operations Center only.
This format is needed to be able to collect more information per second, which provides a richer set of data required for deeper analysis than in the past.

As advertised, functionality requires 18-1 software for compatibility. Free software updates are available three times a year. For best performance, please update to the latest software.
It is recommended to double-check machine, implement, and Precision Ag application compatibility in the Sales Manual before recommending a producer move from GreenStar 3 2630 to Gen 4 4640 Universal Display.
The 4640 display applications, except for documentation and AutoTrac, are only available as a subscription. Legacy display activations will continue to be sold in the same way as they were previously.
Producers and dealers receive monthly notifications starting 90 days prior to the subscription expiration date. Producers and dealers are also notified on the date it expires.
As of April 2018, 5-year subscriptions are no longer available.
At any time, producers can have up to 5 years remaining on their display subscriptions.
After activating the first subscription, the ‘subscription sync’ option can be used to customize the end date to any duration up to 5 years.
Producers can upgrade their subscription package at any time. The cost is prorated on the length of the remaining term, and producers receive a credit towards the upgrade based on the current in-market price for a 1-year subscription. Downgrading an existing subscription package can occur within the last 30 days of the previous subscription.
Currently, subscriptions are sold independently. However, producers can sync the renewal date for each subscription to the same date for convenience.
Subscriptions are assigned in the same way that activations are assigned to displays using the 26-digit activation code.
The 4640 Universal Display is subscription only. So, activations from earlier generations cannot be transferred to the 4640 Universal Display. Subscriptions can be transferred from one 4640 Universal Display to another at no charge.
A determination of whether to allow transfers to future displays has not yet been made.
Producers have the ability at any time to sell their display and remaining subscription. Dealers cannot ‘pause’ the subscription while it is in a dealer’s inventory, so the subscription will continue to run until it expires.
Should a situation arise where a producer has subscriptions remaining without a useable display, they can transfer their subscription to another 4640 Universal Display or to a future qualifying display.
No. The subscription will continue to run on the display until it expires.
