Meet Jonas: A Journey from Switzerland to Southern Saskatchewan

Have you ever thought of leaving everything behind and starting anew in a foreign land? Well, Jonas, our Service Technician, knows all about it. Jonas hails from the west side of Switzerland, where he grew up on a dairy farm with his parents and five siblings.

After completing his apprenticeship in Heavy-Duty Equipment in 2019, Jonas spent five years on the road as a Heavy-Duty Field Technician. He heard about working in Canada from a friend and decided to give it a shot. “The machines are much bigger here than in Switzerland, and the land is exactly like they say, open.”

Jonas’ journey began with a conversation with a friend who moved to Canada to work in the agriculture industry. He came to visit his friend, and since then, his love for Canada has grown. That connection brought him to Southern Saskatchewan, where he found a supportive community that treats everyone like neighbours. Jonas enjoys spending his free time exploring new places or even indulging in different foods like Poutine and Ketchup chips.

Besides work, Jonas has enjoyed the freedom to go wherever he wants in Canada. He is even planning on joining a local ice hockey team this winter. This past fall, he got to experience the electrifying atmosphere of the iconic Calgary Stampede. Jonas fits in well with the Saskatchewan people and has become an asset to the Nelson Motors and Equipment team.

We look forward to the Fondue that he wants to teach us about from his country.
